Airservices Australia provides the nation's air navigation and surveillance services.
The "Diploma of Electrical Engineering" will be performed in conjunction with cert 3 electrical trade units and the graduate, after completing an apprenticeship will be a fully qualified electrical tradesperson with a Diploma (Technical Officer Electrical).
These positions within Airservices maintain and install power systems such as standby generators, UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supplies, DC power systems, Solar power systems, building light and power, radar aerial drives, meteorological displays and air conditioning. Skills such as these are widely sought after in industry.
The "Diploma of Electronics and Communications" (Technical Officer Radio) graduates, train to maintain and install VHF and HF Communications, terrestrial and satellite link bearers, ground based navigation aids, surveillance radars including data processing and displays. These skills are in demand in the Telecommunications industry.
The Diploma units are completed at the NSW Wagga Wagga TAFE over a two year period which includes various field placements around Australia while being paid.
At the end of this period, permanent field placements are made at various work centres around Australia.
