Access Melbourne selection guarantee: Sessions for parents
The University of Melbourne will be hosting evening information sessions in Northern and Western Melbourne in September to provide further information for parents about Access Melbourne. Our Access Melbourne scheme provides the opportunity for students from diverse educational, financial or social backgrounds to gain access to study at the University.

Students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds or rural & isolated areas are guaranteed entry to their chosen course if they gain the minimum ATAR set under Access Melbourne for that course.
78 or above — guarantees a place in Arts, Environments or Science
88 or above — guarantees a place in Commerce
92 or above — guarantees a place in Biomedicine

Emma on Access Melbourne
“I applied through the category for rural or isolated students. There’s a mentality in the country that we have to work really hard to compete with students in city schools.

Knowing that I would be guaranteed a spot if I achieved an ATAR of 78 or above took some of the pressure off, and also meant I could relax over summer once I received my results.”

Applying via Access Melbourne
Students wishing to apply for Access Melbourne are required to fill in a SEAS application when applying on the VTAC website. SEAS applications for 2011 Year 12 students opened on Monday 1 August and will close on Tuesday 11 October at 5pm.

Information Sessions
These sessions aim to inform local schools, parents and communities about the many benefits of attaining a University education.

20 September Melton Community Hall, Melton
22 September Wyndham City Civic Centre, Werribee
27 September Plenty Ranges Arts & Convention Centre, South Morang
28 September Hume Global Learning Centre, Broadmeadows

VCE Summer School
The MU Student Union Ltd. VCE Summer School is a not for profit, two week program, which will run from 9—20 January 2012.

Designed to provide students from a range of disadvantaged schools and backgrounds with an inspiring and practical introduction to the VCE, the MU Student Union Summer School is one of the few VCE summer programs that cover both academic and non-academic aspects of student life.

Students are offered classes, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, excursions and one-on-one tutorials in all their VCE subjects. This way, students are given opportunities to apply classroom theories in the real world and develop study skills including exam techniques and time management.

The academic program is complemented by activities organised by volunteer tutors to encourage extracurricular involvement, personal development and the creation of support networks amongst students.

A residential program accommodates students from rural or regional areas. We actively seek and provide bursaries and accommodation for students who are unable to attend the program due to geographic/financial difficulties.

All our volunteer tutors have excelled in their own VCE studies and are committed to providing an inspiring and practical experience for VCE students in 2012.

Global recognition for Engineering pathways
The professional Master of Engineering programs at the Melbourne School of Engineering are the first in Australia to be granted the European EUR-ACE® accreditation label. This means that Master of Engineering graduates are now able to work as professional engineers throughout continental Europe.

This is in addition to the Washington Accord countries that already recognise Melbourne’s highly sought-after Master of Engineering programs:
·       Australia
·       UK
·       New Zealand
·       USA
·       Canada
·       Hong Kong
·       Ireland
·       Japan
·       South Africa
·       Malaysia
·       Turkey
·       Taiwan and
·       Singapore

Students thinking of taking undergraduate pathways through to the Master of Engineering will be delighted that their final degree will enable them to work in even more countries across the globe.

The Dean of Engineering, Professor Iven Mareels said that the EUR-ACE® accreditation offered Master of Engineering graduates a competitive edge when applying for work in Europe.

“For our graduates, it will mean that their skills meet the most rigorous European and international benchmarks, and that their qualifications are recognised by top employers in Europe’s leading economies.”
