Blog Number One

Hello and welcome to my Guidance Blog. This is a new way for me to get information to students and parents.

For parents (and students) who do not know me, my name is Jenny Wilson and I am the Guidance Officer at Smithfield High School. In previous years, I have put together Guidance Newsletters for the Year 11 and 12 students with information about scholarships, univeristy courses, GAP year programs, resume writing, Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre information and much more, however information does not always make it home to parents who would also like the information. Initially the newsletters were printed on paper, and then the move was made to e-mail it to all of the Year 11 and 12 student school e-mail addresses, however again there were some issues surrounding students not using their school e-mail addresses.

Through developing a blog I am hoping that students and parents can both sign up to receive the information as I receive it, nominating an e-mail address of choice to where the blog information is sent.

I will make a note here for parents that as I am still new to the blogging world, an electronic newsletter has been sent to students regarding some scholarships that have been available already this year and information was put in student notices asking students to see their school e-mail addresses for this newsletter.

Please be patient as I work my way through developing the blog, and I hope you find it an effective way of receiveing information as soon as it is available.

Thank-you

Jenny Wilson
