We wanted to let you know that there is still time for your Year 12 students to apply for UNE's Early Entry program.

What is UNE's Early Entry?

Early Entry is a great way for your students to secure their place at university.

We understand that an ATAR or OP isn't the only measure of a student's potential to succeed at university.

Applications for Year 11 students for the 2018 UQ Young Scholars Program close this Friday

The following information was received from The University of Queensland:

UQ's Young Scholars Program (YSP) provides high achieving secondary school students with an opportunity to discover, learn and engage with UQ's academic community and like-minded students. Designed to nurture and develop future leaders, the Program also presents students with a unique opportunity for academic extension and enrichment.

The 2018-2019 UQ Young Scholars Program involves:

- A five-day Residential Camp at the St Lucia Campus (Sunday 25 November - Thursday 29 November, 2018)

- A YSP Reunion at UQ Open Day (Sunday 4 August, 2019)

- Online engagement activities and networking through the exclusive YSP Facebook group

During their participation in the Program, UQ Young Scholars are challenged to think critically about tomorrow's major global issues and are exposed to a wide range of potential study areas and career opportunities. They will engage in discussions and collaborative forums in group settings and enjoy a range of complementary social, sporting and cultural activities.

We would greatly appreciate your endorsement of applications from Year 11 students who you believe are strong candidates for the UQ Young Scholars Program.

As previously noted, due to the impact of the Commonwealth games on school and university term dates, UQ's Young Scholars Programs will clash with Year 11 exams in some schools. Those schools whose students are unaffected by the changes are strongly encouraged to submit applications by the close date of Friday 10 August.

Financial hardship should not be perceived as a barrier to participation. Program fee waivers and travel bursaries are available for students who are able to provide evidence of financial hardship.

Please visit https://young-scholars.uq.edu.au/ for more information and to apply. Applications close at 4.00pm this Friday, 10 August 2018 and late applications will not be considered.

For further information on how students can benefits from being involved in YSP, please contact the Program Coordinator, Monique Pountney on 07 3365 2835 or youngscholars@uq.edu.au.

Pitch Your Idea - TEDxJCUCairns

Pitch your idea
TEDxJCUCairns

If you have an idea you're passionate about, here's your change to share it onstage.

TEDxJCUCairns is inviting Alumni to audition for this year's event by giving a three-minute pitch to a live audience.

Over the past four years TEDxJCUCairns has enabled some of FNQ’s best thinkers to share their ideas – first with a live audience, and then the broader online audience.

Last year’s presenters included Molly Steer, who shared her Straw No More message, while Krista Watkins presented her family’s banana power innovations, and Andreas Kupz talked tuberculosis.

“TEDxJCUCairns has showcased brilliant local talent,” organiser Jennifer McHugh said. “This year we want to shake things up a little by hosting a Pitch Night. Come along as a presenter or join the audience. You can meet the TEDx crew, hear from talented local people, and tell us what you’d like to see at TEDxJCUCairns this year.”

“A TEDx talk is a short, live presentation on an idea worth spreading,” Ms McHugh said. “If you have an idea you’re keen to share, please register and come along to Pitch Night. If you’re selected for TEDxJCUCAIRNS we’ll work with you to develop your presentation, so you can share your idea with a live audience, as well as the broader online community.”

TED is a non-profit organization devoted to ‘ideas worth spreading’. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event.
