Alternative Pathways to Higher Education

The University of Queensland (UQ) has established at its Ipswich Campus, UQ College Limited, a company wholly owned by the University, providing pathway programs for students to enable entry to higher education. The College began operating this year, conducting the Tertiary Preparation Program and has now followed with this offering of an Associate Degree in Business.

 The Associate Degree in Business

Associate Degree programs are undergraduate courses which offer excellent pathway opportunities into degree programs. UQ with UQ College as an agent has developed a unique Associate Degree designed to improve academic capability as well as develop business skills.

The College has broken away from the traditional semester program design to provide a program across 4 trimesters enabling student to complete their Associate Degree in Business in 16  months. The course is accredited by the University and will be granted 24 units of credit (or 3 semesters of full-time credit) towards the degree program.

This program can be completed to give a qualification in its own right or to provide a pathway into a Bachelor of Business Management at UQ (St Lucia) or into programs at other Universities. Eligible students may gain HECS-HELP when studying the Associate Degree in Business. Entry is via QTAC for Semester 1, 2012 with Course Number 752302.

 The Tertiary Preparation Program

In some instances prospective students may need additional academic development, a new start or an opportunity to improve their career and/or personal position, the Tertiary Preparation Program develops students to a Year 12 equivalent level and is a two trimester program (2 x 14 weeks). Students study 5 subjects from a list of 9 which when successfully completed can be used to gain a QTAC ranking.

The University has funded the College to deliver this program on its behalf and there are no tuition fees. Typically, school leavers wishing to revisit their Year 12 OP may wish to consider this program. Entry is via an application and interview undertaken by the College. There is an intake in January and another in May for this program.

These two courses are both conducted at the UQ Ipswich Campus and students have access to all of the University resources, services and facilities.

Further information on the College and these courses can be obtained by email info@uqcollege.edu.au or web www.uqcollege.edu.au or you can ring Rod Arthur, CEO on 3381 1551.
