QUT Indigenous Australian Science and Infrastructure Development (SID) School


In 2019 the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has partnered with WSP Australia Pty Limited, Department of Main Roads (Queensland Government), Brisbane Airport Corporation, LendLease, the Australian Army, QMEA Resources Skills Academic and CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship Program to again deliver the Indigenous Australian Science and Infrastructure Development (SID) School – https://www.sidschool.com.au/

The SID School has a strong focus on Science, Technology, Stakeholder Engagement, Urban Development and Planning, as these are some of the key professional disciplines within WSP Australia Pty Limited and like organisations. Similarly QUT has a strong commitment to these disciplines, evident in the development of QUT’s Science and Engineering Centre. The Centre provides a highly visible location with state-of-the-art facilities for QUT’s teaching, research and public outreach activities around the Science Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) disciplines. Located within this building is The Cube, Australia’s largest interactive and learning display centre for STEM.

The SID School aims to increase access and participation in higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and is designed to inform students about a variety of options to consider with information on courses and careers. 

Up to 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queensland secondary school students in years 10, 11 & 12 will be selected to attend the SID School which will run from Monday, 1st to Friday, 5th July 2019. Students will participate in a range of on-campus activities facilitated by QUT faculty staff and industry site visits. All costs will be covered by the sponsorship received in support of the SID School.
