University of Melbourne Update

Access Melbourne
Access Melbourne provides education opportunities for students from a diverse range of backgrounds enrolling in our undergraduate degrees.

The University of Melbourne has a selection guarantee for eligible applicants in the following Access Melbourne categories:
  • Disadvantaged financial background
  • Applicants from rural or isolated areas
Students who complete an Australian Year 12 or the IB in 2013 and are eligible for one or both of these categories, will be guaranteed a Commonwealth Supported Place in the following undergraduate degrees, provided they meet the course prerequisites and achieve the following ATAR or notional ATAR:

Guaranteed entry in 2014 for eligible Access Melbourne applicants

ATAR of     78+        Guarantees a place in Arts, Environments or Science
ATAR of     88+        Guarantees a place in Commerce
ATAR of     95+        Guarantees a place in Biomedicine

Even if a student's ATAR falls below these levels, they will still be considered for a place.
Applicants eligible for other Access Melbourne categories will be considered on an individual basis.

HOW TO APPLY FOR ACCESS MELBOURNE
Applications for Access Melbourne are made using the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) application on the VTAC website.
There are also a number of equity scholarships available through the University's scholarships program, so encourage your students to apply!

Applying to the residential colleges
Applications for a Semester 1, 2014 place at the residential colleges are open – but students still have plenty of time to check out the different colleges before they apply.

New applications will be accepted up until the end of November. In the meantime, students should check out the colleges' websites, visit the colleges on Open Day (many of the colleges are open from 9.00am–5.00pm) or make appointments to tour as many colleges as they like.  When applying, students need to log in and create a new application through our website:

Once you have filled out the online form and double-checked it to ensure  contact details are correct, you should then send (via email) a copy of their most recent school report, a resume and photo to their first preference college. You will also need to ask their first preference college how they prefer to receive the $75 application fee.

The college will then set up an interview with all applicants (by phone or Skype if necessary). Finally, students will forward their ATAR scores in December to complete their applications.

If at any stage a student has a problem with or questions about the application process, they can either contact their college of first preference directly, or the Intercollegiate Office.  In the meantime, keep an eye on the Intercollegiate website for details on the goings-on at the colleges for Open Day.
