Film Making Summer School - The University of Melbourne

The summer school is suitable for both teachers who want to enhance their understanding of filmmaking and students looking to a career in film or media.
The Filmmaking Summer School, held on campus at beautiful Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, offers expert teaching in all aspects of practical film production by our leading, award-winning filmmakers including Director Nadia Tass and Cinematographer David Parker (Malcolm, The Big Steal, Amy, Matching Jack), Screenwriter Mac Gudgeon (Halifax f.p., Ground Zero., Last Ride), Sound Designer Craig Carter (Babe, Romeo & Juliet, Rabbit Proof Fence), Producer Sue Maslin (Japanese Story, Celebrity Dominic Dunne, Hunt Angels, Michael Kirby: Don't Forget the Justice Bit),  Composer Cezary Skubiszewski (Two Hands, Bootmen, Bran Nue Dae, Red Dog) and Cinematographer Ellery Ryan (Angel Baby, Death in Brunswick, That Eye the Sky, Spotswood, The Brush Off,  Van Dieman's Land), amongst many others.

Areas taught cover screenwriting for features and shorts, writing for television, writing children’s film and television, screen producing, production management, directing actors, production and sound design, editing, digital effects, film music, screen language, film business and legalities, marketing and distribution, documentary filmmaking, a 5 day cinematography intensive and a directing masterclass with Nadia Tass.

The course/s can be taken in full (20 days), in part (14 days) or as an introductory course (12 days) or participants can choose their own days and make up their own course.

The Filmmaking Summer School is suitable for teachers and students alike, and provides practical instruction on state-of-the-art equipment in features, shorts and documentary film making as well as an introduction to the acting process, a realistic picture of the Australian film industry and how to find a place within it. 

Inexpensive, safe accommodation is available on campus at Trinity College.

The summer school runs daily weekdays and one weekend from 9.30am to 5.30pm, 4 to 29 Jan 2012, and can be taken in set courses or as individual days.
