Pathway to study medicine
If you are pursuing a career in medicine, USC’s biomedical science program has proven to be a great pathway to achieving their dreams.
Phil Barker of Caloundra and Leigh White of Buderim both started at USC in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science, and are now on their way to studying postgraduate medicine at the University of Wollongong Graduate Medical School.
They were among 700 applicants from across Australia competing for only 72 places in the program. Using their science studies in Honours at USC, hospital orderly Leigh and radiographer Phil were among the lucky few to be offered places.
“USC’s Biomedical Science program provided me with a great foundation for understanding the human body and completing my honours at USC was a valuable opportunity,” Leigh said.
USC’s Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science and Nutritional Biochemist Dr Mark Holmes said several of his students have successfully continued on from their studies at USC to study postgraduate medicine. USC’s biomedical science program offers students a broad range of clinical research areas and practical placement opportunities at hospitals such as the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for students focusing on clinical measurement.
