The University of Queensland UQ Young Scholars Program

The University of Queensland's Young Scholars Program (YSP) provides high achieving secondary school students with an opportunity to discover, learn and engage with UQ's academic community and like-minded students from across Queensland and New South Wales. Designed to nurture and develop future leaders, the Program also presents students with a unique opportunity for academic extension and enrichment.
 
The 2014-2015 UQ Young Scholars Program involves:

• A five-day (four night) Residential Camp at the St Lucia campus (Sunday 30 November - Thursday 4 December 2014)
• A YSP Open Day Reunion (August 2015)
• Facebook Group Networking & YSP Newsletters

Students will gain valuable insights into university life and fields of study they may not have encountered as part of the school curriculum. They will hear from leading thinkers and engage in discussions and collaborative forums in group settings. A range of social, sporting and cultural activities will complement the academic program.
While on campus, students are housed in single rooms in one of UQ’s residential colleges. The Program is administered and supervised by University staff and Student Mentors.

RSL Youth Development Program - closes November 11 2014.

The Returned & Services League (RSL) of Australia (Queensland Branch) and Bond University are delighted to be offering the RSL Youth Development Program again this year! 
The RSL Youth Development Program has been designed to recognise and reward the outstanding efforts of high-achieving Queensland students. The 2014 - 2015 program aims to once again award 200 grants to talented Year 10 and 11 students who have demonstrated success in the following categories:
·         Academic Achievement (inclusive of Arts, Drama, Dance and Media)
·         Sporting Achievement
·         Community Leadership and Civic Participation
Recipients of the RSL Youth Development Program will receive grants of $2,500 and the top 10% of the highest achieving Year 10 and 11 students will receive a higher recognition via a $5,000 grant. Recipients will also have the exclusive opportunity to apply for a scholarship worth 50% of tuition fees to study either a single or combined degree at Bond University on the completion of high school.

Melbourne Bachelor of Oral Health vs Bachelor of Dentistry

The Bachelor of Oral Health does not qualify students as dentists and is not a pathway to the Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Melbourne.
The Bachelor of Oral Health is a 3-year full-time degree (part time is not available) at the University of Melbourne. The degree has four main components: clinical and preventive dentistry, dental and health sciences, social sciences and health promotion, and vocational clinical practice.
Oral Health allows students to practice as an oral health therapist, a dental hygienist or a dental therapist upon graduation.
Students also have the option to undertake an additional honours year as further preparation for employment or to lead to a research higher degree. They will also be eligible for entry into a range of graduate courses including in public health, health services management, business economics and more.

UniExperience at Melbourne

Year 11 students from rural and border regions, those who are first in their family to consider tertiary study, and Indigenous Australian and Torres Strait Islander students are invited to come to our Parkville campus on 10  ̶  11 July.

UniExperience gives students the opportunity to experience university life first-hand. The two-day program demystifies the university experience by allowing students to take part in a range of sessions covering all aspects of tertiary study. They will enjoy:

• On-site accommodation and meals at one of the University’s residential colleges
• Guided campus tours
• Detailed information on course offerings at the University
• Sessions and workshops covering the transition to university, student support services, accommodation options, scholarships, study skills and exam tips
• Social activities and the opportunity to meet both peers and current university students.

COST: $100.00 (including GST) covering all meals, overnight accommodation and all materials relating to the program.

UNSW CO-op Scholarship Program

What is the UNSW Co-op Program?
The UNSW Co-op Program offers industry linked scholarships to high achieving students in the fields of Business (Commerce), Science, Engineering and the Built Environment. Programs of study are all based on existing undergraduate programs at UNSW but also include the following benefits:

• Senior managers from industry and government have worked with UNSW academics to plan all Co-op Programs.
• UNSW Co-op Program scholars receive structured industry training (between 9 and 18 months) and gain highly valuable, relevant work experience with up to three different sponsor companies.
• UNSW Co-op Program scholars receive a tax-free scholarship of $16,750 per annum*. This is paid in fortnightly instalments and can be used at the student's discretion.
• On graduation, sponsors are always looking to recruit UNSW Co-op Program Scholars

What are the benefits for students?
$67,000 - $83,750 scholarship*

·         PLUS support throughout their degree.

*Scholarships pay $16,750 per year over 4 years for all degrees. Who should apply?

The UNSW Co-op Program is open to year 12 students entering university for the first time, or those commencing university for the first time after a gap year. Candidates for scholarships are not only selected on their academic ability, but also their communication skills, motivation, leadership potential, and passion for their chosen field of study.

TAFE certificate course fee changes

RE:  Certificate II and III qualifications
Further to my previous communications, I am writing to clarify the changes to some of the Certificate II and III qualifications currently offered to TAFESEC students.
There has been considerable change to the courses offered to high school students.  As of the 1st of July, 2014, funding has been withdrawn from all Certificate III programs and some Certificate II programs.  NQTAFE can only continue to offer these qualifications to students who have commenced their studies AND completed a unit of competency prior to 30 June 2014.  Therefore, TAFE ask for that potential students be aware of the following key dates: 
-              SIT30112 - Certificate III in Tourism – Classes start on 12 of Jun 10:30 to 3.30pm
-              SIT30612 - Certificate III in Events – Enrolment and participation available now.
-              SIH20111 - Certificate II in Hairdressing   - Classes start on 5 June
Any student who dies not enrol and participate in their studies by the 30th June 2014 will not be eligible to receive the current government funding and will need to pay full fees for their course.
