There are lots of employment opportunities in the rail industry, and they’re not all about driving trains. If you have students that are considering a pathway to engineering, infrastructure, IT, maintenance, operations, etc., why not encourage them to look for opportunities in Rail Careers?

Twenty exceptional students from around Australia will be chosen in the first intake for our most generous scholarship to date, starting their undergraduate studies at Melbourne in 2020.

The program brings together an unrivalled package of benefits for high-achieving students who may otherwise struggle financially to access higher education.

It offers free accommodation, living allowances, funds for an international exchange, internship or voluntary opportunity, plus a tailored enrichment program including academic orientation, study skills, mentoring and cultural activities.

Big Fish Cairns

Save the date, Big Fish Weekend is back! Bringing together 60 budding entrepreneurs from our region, aged 13 – 25, for three jam-packed days of learning through doing.

Students will be guided through the creative entrepreneurship process to turn their bright ideas into new business ventures, all culminating in a final pitch event.

Presented by YEP Entrepreneurship Facilitators Cairns and supported by CQUniversity and key sponsors.  

 

Date: 3 pm, Friday 12 April to 5 pm Sunday, 14 April 2019

Location:  CQUni Cairns, Level 3, Corner Abbott and Shields Sts
Cost: No cost, thanks to funding from sponsors
Registration: Due to limited attendance students will need to complete a short application to attend

Defence Force Information Night

Defence Force Recruiting Cairns are hosting a parents and teachers Defence careers night on Thursday 28^th February 2019 at the Novotel Cairns (122 Lake Street).

 

This event will be open to teachers, students and their parents to come along and get an insight on what careers, unique lifestyles and experiences we have on offer in the Australian Defence Force.

James Cook University Careers in Health Breakfast

Students are invited to attend the JCU Careers in Health Breakfast.

The breakfast aims to explore careers within health and medical fields for regional youth.

This exciting and informative breakfast will feature a panel of students and academic staff to unpack careers and courses in:

• Medical Research
• Pharmacy
• Occupational Therapy
• Nursing
• Speech Pathology
• Dentistry
• Others include physiotherapy, medicine, surgery and many more…..

In addition JCU will bring Student Ambassadors from a wide range of health and medical fields to speak to students.

We are looking at students meeting in at the venue for the start of the breakfast, and then returning to school by bus. There may be an additional charge for transport.

Future Teacher Bursary

Are you completing Year 11 or 12 in a Queensland state school in 2019 and considering becoming a teacher? You may be eligible to receive financial assistance and fast-track your career by studying part of your teaching degree while you are still at school.

There are many benefits to starting your teaching degree while you are at school:

• You can finish your teaching degree faster as you will have completed some of the required tertiary education units in conjunction with your senior studies.
• The Department of Education will cover the cost of the tertiary education units you study, and some may even be offered to you for free by the Higher Education Institution (HEI).
• You may be eligible to receive a payment of up to $200 to help cover study costs related to your program including, but not limited to, text books, stationery, photocopying and campus visits.
• You can access additional support through a peer support network.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply you must:

• be a secondary student, completing Year 11 or 12 at a Queensland state school in 2019
• be accepted into, and studying, eligible education units through one of the following approved programs offered by Queensland Higher Education Institutions:
• Central Queensland University - Start Uni Now (SUN)
• Griffith University - Early Start to Tertiary Studies (GUESTS)
• Queensland University of Technology - Start QUT
• University of Southern Queensland - Head Start
• University of the Sunshine Coast - Headstart

How to apply

When you have been accepted into the eligible program and selected your unit/s of study, your school will need to complete the Future Teachers Bursary application form on your behalf.

They must attach:

• evidence that you have been accepted into a program and education unit/s
• evidence of payment of fees for education unit/s (if applicable)
• your parent's permission to submit an application for the bursary.

Applications close 15 February 2019.
