Hawker Scholarship

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Hawker family member the Hon. David Hawker AO presented four new Charles Hawker Scholars from three states with their scholarship certificates this morning (01/06) at a ceremony held at St Mark’s College in Adelaide.
Since 1990, the Hawker Scholarship Trustees have awarded $5 million dollars to 118 Australian students, including a significant number from regional areas. The four successful candidates were awarded their residential Hawker Scholarships from a strong field of 184 applicants.

The new scholars are studying Philosophy, Physics, Mathematics, Agribusiness, Law, History and Development Studies.. The 2017 scholars are from Melbourne, Booleroo Centre (SA), Borambola (NSW) and Bathurst (NSW).

The 2017 Charles Hawker Scholarship recipients are Ms. Olivia BROWN (Lauriston Girls’ School VIC), Mr. MacKinlay COOKSON (Trinity Anglican College Albury NSW & Melbourne Grammar School VIC), Ms. Ella GRAHAM (Booleroo Centre District School SA) and Mr. Daniel McKAY (The Scots School Bathurst & the Australian National University ACT).

The late Lilias Needham, in memory of her brother, established the Charles Hawker Scholarship Trust. C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships, valued at up to $50,000.00 over three years, are amongst the most generous privately funded residential scholarships available to Australian undergraduate and postgraduate students.

There are a number of scholarships awarded each year. The Trustees offer them to capable students of principle and character, who have demonstrated a committed to the wider community. Selection is based on personal qualities as well as academic ability.

Applications for the 2018 Charles Hawker Scholarships open on December 4th 2017 and close on January 5th 2018. An application form and further information about C.A.S.
